Our residential community here on Upper Padre Island, is relatively young. The Padre Island National Seashore, a National Park located just a few miles down Park Road 22, was officially dedicated by "Lady Bird" Johnson on April 8, 1968. From that time forward, our residential community began to grow from a dream on paper to a viable project with canals, bulkheads, streets, utilities and lots available for homesites.

In those 43 years, we have come a long way. Our main asset here is a lifestyle that allows the residents to live as close to the abundance of nature and the Gulf as possible. The majority of us live on the Island by choice. Many of us are either retired or semi-retired and longing for the warmer winters that pass without ice and snow. Others are young families from Corpus Christi, who just want to live near the water and love the "outdoor" amenities. Finally, we have a contingent of "Winter Texans" and "Second Home" owners, who do not live here full time, but return on a regular basis to share the Coastal Bend pleasures.

All of these factors combined result in a predominant number of three bedroom homes. As of today, September 21, 2011, there are 137 detached homes for sale on Upper Padre Island. 98 of those have three bedrooms, 32 have four bedrooms, 5 have five bedrooms, one has 6 bedrooms and one has two bedrooms. In addition, 93 of the detached homes have two bathrooms, but 28 of those include a half bath. 32 detached homes have three bathrooms, 10 have four bathrooms, one has five bathrooms and one has 6 bathrooms.
